According to Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell, since January 1 two local churches have been burglarized.
Cassell said the churches, one in the Morning Star area and one in Harriet, were broken in to and in one case money (change) was stolen. He said one burglary occurred when the suspect entered through an open window and the other when the suspect gained entry to the building and forced open an inside door.
Cassell reported that there is a viable suspect in the case but his department is also following up on other leads in the case.
Cassell encourages all residents to lock their homes and cars and also to take the necessary steps to protect all of their assets by photographing belongings, logging serial numbers on electronics and/or installing a home security device.
Anyone having any information concerning these or other attempted burglaries in the area are encouraged to call the sheriff’s office at 870-448-2340.
