Leslie man arrested for Breaking or Entering

A 30 year old Leslie man, Jonathan Manning, was arrested on the evening of July 26 after he was seen using a flashlight in the parking lot of the Leslie Intermediate School parking lot.

Due to the number of thefts that had been occurring in Leslie, Searcy County Deputy Troy Dye approached Manning after he observed Manning's suspicious activity. According to Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell, when Dye approached Manning, he turned off the flashlight. At that time, Dye noticed that Manning's pickup truck was parked next to a grey pickup truck owned by the Searcy County School District.

When Dye asked Manning what he was doing in the parking lot at that time of night, Manning said there were issues at home and he needed to "get away." During their conversation, Dye noticed a three foot length of water hose in the back of Manning's truck. Dye also saw a pair of cutters that had a small piece of water hose attached to it in the front seat of Manning's truck along with two plastic gasoline jugs in the back of Manning's vehicle. Dye also noticed the gas cap had been removed from the grey truck belonging to the school.

Later, law enforcement learned that gas had been spilled on the ground next to the grey truck and gas was also present on the rear tire directly below the fuel door.

Cassell said the next day Searcy County School Superintendent Alan Yarbrough turned over the video footage of the parking lot from the night before and it showed Manning at the school. The video also showed a portion of the hose inside the fuel tank of the school's truck and Manning stepping on the end of the hose in an attempt to extract fuel from the truck.

Manning was arrested and charged with breaking and entering, Class D felony, and theft of property, Class A misdemeanor.
