Forgery suspect arrested in Searcy County

Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell reported the arrest of a suspect wanted in connection with a stolen check out of St. Joe.

Cassell said his office was contacted on July 23 by Clinton F. Elliott of St. Joe regarding a forged check that was stolen from his home in St. Joe. Elliott stated that the check was taken from either his office or his bedroom without his permission and forged in his name in the amount of $7,000.

Elliott told law enforcement officials that the person responsible for the stolen check was Amber McQueen also known as Amber Elliott, age 28, who resides in Flippin. The forged check was written on a bank in Marshall and given by McQueen to a law firm.

In an interview with Searcy County Chief Deputy Dewayne Pierce on August 6, Elliott stated that he had never given McQueen permission to write the check or for her to be inside his residence. Elliott said he learned of the forged check when his daughter contacted him saying she had received a call from the individual who received the forged check and said the funds were not in the bank to cover the check.

Elliott also told authorities that he wanted to press charges against Amber McQueen/Elliott.

During the course of the investigation, local authorities learned that McQueen currently has active warrants out of Boone County (Harrison), AR and has a criminal history that includes failure to appear.

Twentieth Judicial Prosecuting Attorney Carol Crews and Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Ben Fruehauf issued a warrant for McQueen’s arrest on a second degree forgery charge, which is a Class C felony.

McQueen was arrested on September 20 and transported to the Searcy County Detention Center in Marshall. She appeared in Searcy County Circuit Court on September 24 where her bond was set at $7,500 (cash or professional). McQueen remains in the Searcy County Detention Center pending bond.
