Traffic stop leads to arrest

According to Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell, a traffic stop that occurred on May 6, lead to the arrest of St. Joe resident, Michael Elliott, age 32.

Cassell stated that on May 6 Searcy County Deputy Billy Cordell noticed Elliott driving a motorcycle on Hwy. 65 that had a lens missing on one turn signal and decided to perform a traffic stop. During the stop, Elliott admitted he did not have a valid ID or a valid driver’s license.

During the stop with Elliott, Cordell allegedly found glass smoking device in his right front pocket and a plastic bag containing a white crystalline substance in the left pocket. During a Nar-Tec field test both items tested positive. Cordell also noticed that Elliott appeared to be under the influence of drugs at the time of the arrest. When questioned, Elliott allegedly admitted he has smoked meth earlier in the day.

Elliott was arrested and transported to the Searcy County Detention Center where he was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, Class D felony; possession of meth, Class B felony; no motorcycle license; defective turn signal; and no driver’s license or expired license.
